◎简　　介　

1936年春天，依然盛行传统成规的日本。

父母给凛安排好了婚事，对方是个素未谋面的人，凛为此相当烦恼。

父亲寅雄有着一家之主说一不二的权威，母亲文江一直顺从忍耐。看在眼里的凛觉得如果自己接受了婚事，就会像母亲那样过一辈子。她希望去女子学校读书，难道女性不能更自由地生活么？在犹豫不安中，婚礼之日到来了。凛穿着礼服从家里跑了出去。

1954年，飞速发展的日本。

时光飞逝，凛的三个女儿薰、翠、慧都已经长大成人。

大女儿薰在大学念书时结识了教授真中，两人情投意合，薰一毕业就结了婚。薰认为自己的幸福是爱丈夫一生、支持丈夫一生，每天过着充实的日子。某个休息日，薰一边做饭，一边等待外出的真中回家，然而……

二女儿翠在一家大出版社工作，是当时还不多见的职业女性。她有着竹子那样傲直要强的性格，为了不输给男人而努力工作，经常坚持己见与人争论。男朋友菊池突如其来的求婚打乱了翠的心，让她在结婚和工作之间摇摆不定，开始仔细思量自己的人生之路。凛和自己负责联络的作家远藤谈心，却依然没法简单地做出决定。
